据说可你把xp减小到185mb,还没有来得及测试!希望高手能制作出一个装在U盘里的XP,最好是能免激活的。那样子,我那40M的98也好淘汰了。

Windows XP SP1 in 185MB
Introduction
The purpose of this guide is to remove Windows componens and drivers from the installation CD, in order to save space and increase performance, both during setup and in the installled operating system. This is done by a series of batchfiles that do everything to remove files and prevent setup from displaying any errors.
Many files will be modified or deleted, so you must run the batchfiles on a backup of your installation CD. Removing Windows components and drivers is done entirely at your own risk. They have been tested to see if the operating still functions normally, but no additional applications have been tested.
These batchfiles do not modify any binaries and do not remove copyright protection or Windows activation. Removing components can make your operating system unstable and you will to be not entitled to technical support for a modified version of Windows. If you accept these conditions please read on. Also look at the most recent changes.
Before you begin
You will need a version of Windows XP with Service Pack 1 slipstreamed and without integrated hotfixes or other modifications. You will also require Expand, MakeCab and FindStr, which come with Windows, and an archiving utility capable of creating cabinet files, such as PowerArchiver. The batchfiles only do things you can do manually with NotePad and Windows Explorer.
If you want your installation CD really small, you will have to start with removing directories, that aren't related to Windows. The I386\, I386\ASMS\ and I386\SYSTEM32\ directories are always required. The I386\WIN9XMIG\, I386\WIN9XUPG\ and I386\WINNTUPG\ directories are only required for upgrades. The I386\LANG\, I386\DRW\ and I386\COMPDATA\ directories are probably not required for a clean install in English. All other directories outside the I386\ directory are not required. When you are left with only the required directories, your installation CD should be approximately 350MB.
How to do it
Before running the batchfiles to remove drivers, you must expand DRIVER.CAB and SP1.CAB into I386\DRIVER\ and I386\SP1\. No files can be removed if you don't do this. When you are done removing drivers, you have to pack the directories back together, with any archiving tool capable of creating cabinet files with LZX compression. Two batchfiles have been included to prepare before and finish off after removing drivers.
Download and extract the batchfiles to your installation CD root directory. This is the directory that also contains the I386 directory. They will not check whether they are in the correct directory, its up to you to do it right. Then just run the batchfiles to remove the components or drivers you don't need. Run the batchfiles one by one, giving them time to finish. Running several at the same time will not work. Two batchfiles are included to prepare before and finish after removing drivers.
You should get very few errors from the batch files if all went right. Some errors are normal and are explained below. Again you should run the batch files on Windows XP with Service Pack 1 slipstreamed and without integrated hotfixes. If you want to integrate hotfixes, this can be done after removing components.
How it works
The batchfiles contain a number of sections. First files will be moved or deleted. Then two logs will be created, which will be used to update TXTSETUP.SIF and DOSNET.INF. This will prevent textmode setup from displaying file copy errors. Finally the setup information files are updated. Either SYSOC.INF will be updated, or a dummy component will be created. The dummy files are necessary because they are called from SYSSETUP.INF, which is digitally signed and can not be modified. Removing optional components can save up to 80MB from the installation CD.
If you want to make your installation CD even smaller, read Gosh's Secret of Reducing Size. This will make it possible to create an installation CD as small as 150MB.
Overview of removed components
Internet Explorer can be removed, but only the browser application will be removed. This means that Windows Explorer will still be able to function as a browser. When removed, it may be very difficult to install a newer version. Because no newer versions are available at the moment, this could not be tested. A shortcut in the Start Menu may not function normally.
Outlook Express is removed together with Windows Address Book, because they require each other to work. When removed, it may be very difficult to install a newer version. Because no newer versions are available at the moment, this could not be tested. A shortcut in the Start Menu may not function normally. Outlook, which is included in Office, requires this component to be installed.
MSN Explorer is installed as an optional component, so it can be removed safely. When removed, no shortcut will be created in the Start Menu.
Windows Media Player is removed together with its Tour, Playlists and Skins. Although it is possible to remove these separately, they would be of no particular use once Windows Media Player has been removed. You can safely install a newer version of Windows Media Player, when all of these components have been removed.
Windows Movie Maker is installed as an integrated component, but can be removed safely. When removed, no shortcut will be created in the Start Menu.
Windows Messenger is installed as an optional component, and requires NetMeeting for some of its functionality. Some errors when running the batch file are normal, because the setup information file mentions a number of files, which should be in the installation directory, but for some reason are not.
Accessories include the Calculator, Character Map, Clipboard Viewer and Paint applications, and also Desktop Wallpapers, Mouse Pointers and Document Templates. Screensavers will also be removed, because they should be installed as an optional component, but for some reason are not in the Accessories component list.
Wordpad is installed as an optional component. When removed, no shortcut will be created in the Start Menu.
Windows Tour is not installed like other components, it is just copied to its directory. When removed, the shortcut in the Start Menu will not be created. A registry entry is automatically added to one of the registry hives, so that the Tour Bubble does not pop up.
Accessibility only includes the Accessibility Wizard and Accessibility Cursors, but the the Narrator, Magnifier, On-Screen Keyboard and Utility Manager applications, will be removed as well, because most people think they are part of the accessibility tools.
Speech is installed as an integrated component, but can be removed safely. When removed, the Narrator application may not function properly.
Games include the Freecell, Hearts, Minesweeper, Solitaire and Spider Solitaire games. All the Internet Games will be removed as well and no shortcuts will be created in the Start Menu.
Pinball is installed as an optional component. When removed, no shortcut will be created in the Start Menu. An error when running the batch file is normal, because a file which should have been compressed, is not compressed in most installation directories.
Communications includes the Chat, HyperTerminal and Phone Dialer applications, which are all installed as optional components. No shortcuts will be created in the Start Menu.
NetMeeting is installed as an integrated component, but can be removed safely. When removed, some functionality of Windows Messenger will not be available.
Internet Connection Wizard is installed as an integrated component, but can be removed safely. When removed, Internet Explorer will start up directly the first time.
Remote Desktop Connection is installed as an optional component, and includes both the client and server side of Terminal Services. When removed, it will not show up in the System Properties window and a connection can not be made to a computer that has Terminal Services installed. This probably also remove Remote Assistance.
Entertainment includes the old Media Player, Volume Control and Sound Recorder applications, which are all installed as optional components. Utopia Sounds are also removed, although this is not included in the list of optional components. A second version of the old Media Player, which is installed as an integrated component, is also removed. Most people are not aware that three different versions are installed by default.
Search Assistant is installed as an integrated component, but can be removed safely. When removed, Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer will use the stand search behaviour, without an animated character.
System Tools include the old Disk Defragmenter, Synchronize and Backup applications. When removed, no shortcuts will be created in the Start Menu.
Automatic Updates is installed as an optional component. When removed, it will not show up in the System Properties window, and the service that checks for updates will not be listed in the Services window. Update Root Certificates, which is just an empty optional component will, be removed as well. Note that the Windows Update shortcut in the Start Menu is not related to this component.
System Restore is installed as an integrated component. When removed, it will not show up in the System Properties window and it will not function from the Help and Support center. Trying to run it from the Help and Support center, may result in an error. The shortcut in the Start Menu will also not be created.
Files and Settings Transfer Wizard is not installed like other components, it is just copied to its directory. When removed, the shortcut in the Start Menu will not be created.
Help and Support, Local Troubleshooters and System Information are all installed as integrated components. They can only be removed together, because they require each other to function. When removed, some applications may not display help, and devices will not start their troubleshooters. A registry entry is added in the dummy file, so that Help and Support is removed from the Start Menu.
Overview of removed drivers
Drivers are removed per category and will delete setup information files and system files, so make sure you have a backup ready. Only the Game Controllers category will remove an integrated component, the Game Controller Images component, which installs a series of images of installed Game Controllers. There will be some missing files when you remove both Scanners and Printers, because of a Brother scanner/printer/copier device. If you do not have this device, there is no problem. If you do need these drivers, you should not remove either. There are two batchfiles to help you prepare before and finish after removing drivers. It is best to run these as well, although you could easily do it manually.
When you use the batchfile to finish off after removing drivers, DRIVER.CAB and SP1.CAB will be combined into a single file. Because the two contain a lot of duplicates with different version, it will save a lot of space. This batchfile will also create a new DRVINDEX.INF. Removing drivers can save over 80MB from the installation CD.
Changes
Fixed a problem with removing Internet Information Services, that caused Add/Remove Optional Components to fail and stopped many components from registering. A setup information file that is renamed during initial setup was overlooked, but the problem is now fixed.
Windows Management Instrumentation is a tricky component to remove. It can be done if most of the other components are removed as well, but it is best not to remove it. It is also best not to remove Agent. The reason is that these components can not be removed completely, without causing errors. When you remove everything else, it can be done.
I have added the batchfile to remove Internet Explorer, but it has not yet been tested. If anybody has tried it, before I did, please let me know.
