DESQview/X can also run without a shell, launching applications from the window manager's popup menu instead. I couldn't get a screen shot of that because it disappears when an application is run. The interface consists of lots and lots of buttons. It took a few minutes for me to get used to the Application Manager because clicking the button once "selects" the button rather than opening the application.
